Information for Evacuees in New Orleans

  • NOLA Ready Information for Hurricane Laura evacuees: https://ready.nola.gov/incident/tropical-storm-laura/information-for-evacuees/

  • Check into a state-run shelter: New Orleans shelter capacity has been reached. If you are still in need of shelter, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is directing people to the Alexandria Mega Shelter, 8125 Hwy 71 South, Alexandria, LA 71302. This information is also available via 2-1-1.

  • Get resources and services while you're here: Text WELCOMENOLA to 888777 for information from the City of New Orleans on resources, services, and events available to you.

Ways to Donate, Access Resources, or Receive Important Updates:

  • REMINDER: The best way to help in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Laura is to donate directly to response organizations on the ground in Southwest Louisiana. Please do not drop off physical goods, neither in the affected area nor at shelters for evacuees, unless specifically requested.

  • 211 or 311: Citizens in need of services should dial 211 or text 898-211. This confidential helpline is available 24/7/365. 211 receives calls during natural and manmade disasters as part of the statewide 211 system, providing vital non-emergency information before, during and after the event.

  • Text LAGOV to 67283 for statewide updates.

  • NOLA Ready: follow NOLA Ready on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and online at ready.nola.gov.

  • As of September 11, the State of Louisiana and Hands On New Orleans will be taking over the Convention Center Evacuee Resource Center operations and donations management. A Multi-Agency Warehouse is now open in Ponchatoula, LA. It is open from Tuesday-Saturday 9am-4pm, beginning 9/10. If you are running a donation drive, this is the primary drop off point. Outbound transport from the Warehouse to impacted areas will be twice weekly: Agencies with donations are required to fill out a Hurricane Laura Donation Form and then reserve a drop-off date/time at the Warehouse. Visit https://www.handsonneworleans.org/hurricane-laura. Please complete the form and reservation each time you need to drop off donations. The Warehouse is accepting donations in the following categories ONLY: pet supplies, cleaning supplies, electronics (batteries/flashlights), first aid, furniture, health and beauty items, hygiene supplies, infant/toddler supplies (diapers and formula), kitchen items, new linens, PPE (masks, sanitizer, gloves), school/office supplies, tools, and water drinks. Absolutely NO clothing will be accepted. Please coordinate with Second Harvest on food donations.
